INDIANAPOLIS- Stephen Gum had eight three-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points to lead No. 4 Drury to a 70-52 win over host Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at Nicoson Hall. The Panthers piled-up 42 second-half points to improve to 15-2 overall, 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference.
A Greyhound bucket to start the game was followed by 11 straight Drury points. Back-to-back DeAndre Brock triples helped trim the margin to three at 16-13. After Collins Harris made a layup at the 5:32 mark, the Hounds held the Panthers off the board for the balance of the half, etching back to within two at the break, 27-25.
UIndy (12-6, 6-4 GLVC) would regain the lead for the first time since the opening basket on a Tyke Cockerham layup to make it 32-31. The teams traded leads until Drury ran off nine consecutive points, forcing a Greyhound timeout. The run continued until the Panthers held a 51-35 advantage midway through the half.
The Hounds could draw no closer than 13 the rest of the way. Brock led the Greyhounds with 17 points and six rebounds. Cockerham added 12 points and four assists.
UIndy will next play in a week, heading to Rensselaer, Ind. for a battle with rival Saint Joseph's. Tip time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Feb. 2.
