INDIANAPOLIS- The 22nd-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team treated an enthusiastic Ruth Lilly Center crowd to an impressive straight-set victory against visiting Quincy Thursday night (25-10, 25-13, 25-17). UIndy never trailed in the win and forced 18 attack errors by the Lady Hawks while allowing just 19 kills. Freshman
Courtney Anglemyer (pictured) topped the squad with 10 kills and two block assists.
The Greyhounds (17-3, 6-1 GLVC) quickly jumped on Quincy by scoring six of the match’s first seven points. UIndy put 23 on the board before the Lady Hawks reached double-digits, thanks in part to zero first-set attack errors from the Hounds.
Down 1-0, QU (8-10, 2-5) managed two ties early in the second set, ultimately marking the only two ties of the match. Knotted at two apiece, UIndy scored six straight points and didn’t look back to go on to a 25-13 win.
Set three was the most closely contested frame, but it too lacked suspense. Each team scored nine of the final 18 points, but UIndy built a 16-8 edge prior to the back-and-forth to help seal the sweep win.
Anglemyer compiled a .389 hitting percentage to go with her match-high kill total. Sophomores
Lyndsay Callahan and
Cheneta Morrison both hit over .400 on seven kills. Senior
Beth Robbins totaled 30 assists while junior
Kyleigh Turner, fresh off setting the school’s career dig record, led all players with 17 digs.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Indianapolis also began its annual Block Out Breast Cancer campaign Thursday. With every block the Hounds register this month, the UIndy Athletics Department will donate $3 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
UIndy hosts two additional matches this week, starting with West Division-leading Missouri-St. Louis Friday night at 7 pm. UMSL brings a solid 7-1 conference record into RLC.
The Greyhounds wrap up their busy week by facing Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, part of a full day of homecoming festivities on the UIndy campus.
