EVANSVILLE, Ind.- Winning on the road in the Great Lakes Valley Conference has perennially proven to be a daunting task. The Greyhounds, in the midst of a five-game road swing, dropped their fourth straight contest as host Southern Indiana (12-9, 6-7 GLVC) held serve in an 81-76 Saturday afternoon affair at the Physical Activities Center.
UIndy (12-9, 6-7) ended the game with the exact same record as the Screaming Eagles, but currently finds itself with an uphill climb to advance to the postseason league tournament, while USI holds a firm grasp on the second seed in the GLVC West.
DeAndre Brock's triple to make it 8-5 would prove to be the only Greyhound lead in the game as the host Eagles responded by holding UIndy without a field goal for the next seven minutes to retake the lead. Another Brock long ball later in the half trimmed the deficit to just two. Ten straight Eagle points followed, helping them to a 36-26 lead at the break.
Brock did all in his power to revive the Hounds from a deficit that rose to as large as 18. The senior dropped in 22 of his game-high 28 points in the second half as the Hounds clawed their way back into the contest late. With help from big triples by Justin Barnard, the Greyhounds eventually whittled the lead down to single digits midway through the period.
On the next Greyhound possession, Keith Radcliff hit a three and the lead was only eight. USI refused to let the lead completely evaporate, but Brock hit his sixth triple with 1:30 remaining for a seven-point margin, 75-68. Free throw makes from Brock and Radcliff drew it to within five, but the clock ran out in time for USI to escape with the win.
UIndy's second-half comeback was fueled by a 7-for-16 effort from long range and just two turnovers. Radcliff hit all three of his triple tries in the game, and coupled it with a 4-for-4 mark from the free throw line to etch a new career-high with 15 points.
Tyke Cockerham added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds for the Greyhounds. USI was led by Norman Plummer and Tyson Schnitker, who racked-up 25 and 23 points, respectively.
Two games remain on the current road trip for UIndy. The Hounds will face Bellarmine on Thursday and will head to Northern Kentucky on Saturday in the team's final road tilt of the regular season.
