INDIANAPOLIS- The 22nd-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team downed Kentucky Wesleyan College in straight sets, 25-10, 25-15, 25-17, at the Ruth Lilly Center Friday night. The win came in the Greyhounds’ first home match this season to push their record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Except for a stretch early in the third set, Indianapolis had little problems with the Panthers. UIndy held its opponent to a negative attack percentage for the match, out-hitting them .284 to -.047.
The Greyhounds opened the night with a healthy .378 hitting percentage in the first set. With the score tied 3-3, UIndy scored 10 of the next 11 points take control.
In the second frame, the Hounds built leads of 6-1, 10-3 and 13-4 through the early going. KWC (3-8, 0-3 GLVC) would get as close as three as three straight Greyhound attack errors made it 15-12. UIndy found the gas from that point by ending the set on a 10-3 run.
The Panthers would not go down easy as the final set featured five ties and two lead changes. After KWC went up 7-4, the Greyhounds pulled even at 10 apiece and then managed to rattle off seven straight points. The rally proved too much for KWC as the Hounds went on to take the set and the match.
Freshman
Courtney Anglemyer and sophomore
Cheneta Morrison each totaled a match-high eight kills. Morrison garnered 22 attack attempts while Anglemyer compiled a .429 hitting percentage. Nine Hounds had at least two digs, led by
Kyleigh Turner’s 13.
UIndy returns to the Ruth Lilly Center Sep. 17 in a non-conference tilt versus Indiana Wesleyan. Start time Wednesday is schedule for 7 pm.
