INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis volleyball team upped its record to 10-2 with a straight-set victory (25-19, 25-20, 28-26) against visiting Indiana Wesleyan Wednesday night at the Ruth Lilly Center. Senior
Beth Robbins finished with a match-high 48 assists and added a key kill to help the Greyhounds win a close third set.
Indiana Wesleyan (9-8) came into the match also looking for its 10th win of the season. The Wildcats garnered a 24th-ranking in the latest Tachikara-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Volleyball Coaches’ Top-25 Poll.
The Hounds cooled down a bit in the second set but the Wildcats managed to hit at a mere .029 clip as UIndy scooped 23 of their 35 attack attempts. Callahan accounted for 10 of those 23 digs and finished the match with a team-high 18 digs.
IWU out-hit the Greyhounds in the third set, .167-.148, but the Hounds overcame two set points by the Wildcats to make sure the match went no more than the minimum.
With the set knotted at 22, UIndy scored the next two points to push Wesleyan to the brink. The Wildcats, in turn, responded with a rally to earn their first set point at 25-24 and force a Greyhound timeout.
Out of the stoppage, a booming kill from Morrison tied it again but IWU answered with a kill of its own to again earn a set point.
It marked the final point for the Wildcats, however, as UIndy scored the final three points to take the win. The trio of scores was highlighted by a second-hit kill by Robbins that found the back corner.
Morrison led all players with 15 kills while adding eight digs. Callahan made it a double-double with 10 kills, Robbins supplemented her 48 assists with eight digs, and Anglemyer compiled a .364 hitting percentage and 12 kills.
Kyleigh Turner and
Ashley Fallos contributed 14 and 11 digs, respectively, while freshman
Buff Crawford saw extended playing time for the first time this season and finished with five kills and a block assist.
UIndy returns to GLVC play with three straight conference road matches, starting with Bellarmine Friday night. Start time from Knights Hall is schedule for 7 pm.
