Box score

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.-  Having won the previous two matches in Regents Hall, the No. 23 University of Indianapolis volleyball team could not make it a third as fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division member Northern Kentucky downed the Greyhounds in four sets (25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22). Both teams now own identical 11-3 overall records and 4-1 GLVC marks.

The league leaders in hitting percentage, NKU came into the match unranked but did receive votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Poll.

The Norse continued their efficient hitting versus Indianapolis by attacking at a .333 clip for the match, a season high for a UIndy opponent.

After NKU jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the opening set, UIndy trimmed the deficit to four multiple times but would get no closer as the Norse went up 1-0.

Kristina Hefferan scored the first point of set number two to give the Hounds their first lead of the match, but with the scored tied 10-10, NKU rattled off six straight to take control.  Though the Greyhounds pulled within two at 20-18, the Norse finished the set on a 5-2 run to put UIndy in an 0-2 hole.

With their backs against the wall, the Greyhounds held off the Norse to take a close third set.  The frame included a whopping 11 ties, the last of which coming at 23 apiece.  At that point, UIndy received kills from freshmen Courtney Anglemyer and Hefferan to extend the match.

The rivals picked up where they left off as the fourth stanza featured seven more ties.  With the score knotted at nine, UIndy ran off four in a row to seize the momentum and later led 17-11.  The Hounds could not close deal, however, as their hosts surged with a 14-5 rally to hand the Greyhounds just their third loss of the season.

Hefferan garnered personal bests with 19 kills and 48 attack attempts.  Lyndsay Callahan notched her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, Beth Robbins totaled 43 assists and two blocks, while Kyleigh Turner had 17 digs.

UIndy travels to the west side of Evansville, Ind. Sep. 23 for a mid-week match at Southern Indiana.  Start time for Tuesday’s match is scheduled for 8 pm ET.

Notes:  NKU’s win broke a six-match losing streak to UIndy…both teams now sit at 4-1 in the GLVC East, one game back of 5-0 Lewis.
