CALIFORNIA, Pa.-  The 24th-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team (14-3) took the best the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference had to offer and came away with two wins at the PSAC Crossover Tournament Friday.  Today’s opponents, the No. 13 California University of Pennsylvania and Lock Haven University, were a combined 30-0 heading into play but were each handed its first loss of the season by the Greyhounds.

UIndy 3, Cal U 1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-18, 25-22)
In the opening match, the ranked opponents traded sets to head into the third frame tied at one apiece before sophomore Lyndsay Callahan asserted herself with six third-set kills to help put the Hounds up 2-1.

In the fourth and final set, freshman Abby Merritt gave the Hounds a spark off the bench by killing four balls on eight attempts, boosting UIndy to its first win against a ranked opponent in two tries this year.

The match featured a team season-high 11 blocks from the Greyhounds and a team hitting percentage of .333 and .289 in the third and fourth set, respectively.  Callahan (14 kills, 16 digs), Cheneta Morrison (10 K, 14 D), and Beth Robbins (44 assists, 14 D) all notched double-doubles while Callahan added five aces.  Junior Kyleigh Turner registered 23 digs and freshman Courtney Anglemyer had 10 kills and three blocks.

As for the hosts, the loss not only marked the first blemish for Cal U (16-1) this season, but was also the first defeat handed to the Vulcans at home in over three years.  The PSAC West Division leaders had won the previous 30 matches at Hamer Hall since falling to Lock Haven way back in September of 2005.

UIndy 3, Lock Haven 2 (22-25, 25-27, 25-15, 25-22, 17-15)
Times did not get any easier for UIndy as its next opponent, Lock Haven University (14-1), also came into the match with a spotless record.

The PSAC East Division leading Lady Eagles proved deserving of their perfect winning percentage by taking the first two sets to put the Greyhounds’ backs against the wall.

UIndy responded by winning the next two sets, including a convincing 25-15 win in the third.  The Greyhounds finally put LHU away in the fifth set by breaking a 15-15 tie with the match’s final two points.  UIndy recorded 13 kills and a .290 team hitting percentage in the decisive set.

Morrison tallied her second double-double of the day with a team-high 16 kills and 13 digs while adding five blocks.  Callahan matched her classmate’s feat with 13 kills and 14 digs.  Anglemyer paced the squad with a .267 hitting percentage on 15 kills, Robbins had 59 assists and Turner scooped 25 digs.

Notes:  Cal U advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight last season as the Atlantic Region champs…Lock Haven has won the Atlantic Region championship five times this decade.
