LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy softball team pushed its win streak to 15 with a doubleheader sweep at Bellarmine Friday. Thanks in part to superb pitching, the second-ranked Greyhounds (22-2, 4-0 GLVC) downed the host Knights 6-1 and 9-1 to remain undefeated in GLVC play.
GAME ONE
Senior
Jennifer DeMotte (11-0) kept her pitching record spotless with a two-hit, complete-game effort in the opener. After giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the first, the Franklin Central graduate allowed just one base runner the rest of the way, retiring each of the last 17 batters. She struck out a season-high 10 batters while walking none.
The Greyhound offense racked up 10 base hits, including an RBI double from freshman
Erika Goodwin. Goodwin, DeMotte and
Bailey Wittenauer each finished with two hits, while DeMotte drove in a pair of runs.
GAME TWO
Freshman pitcher
Morgan Foley (11-2) returned to her hometown and limited the Knights (13-11, 6-3) to just two hits and one run while fanning a personal-best 16 would-be hitters. Bellarmine's lone tally in the fifth snapped a stretch of 33 1/3 scoreless innings for the Louisville, Ky., native.
Offensively, the Hounds' fruitful second inning provided more than enough runs for the victory. A Bellarmine error opened the door for a seven-run frame. UIndy produced a string of five straight singles while batting around in the inning.
The Hounds also pushed across single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by a solo homer from sophomore
Taylor Russell.
The Hounds travel to Lebanon, Ill., Saturday for another GLVC East clash, this time with the Bearcats of McKendree University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern. Live stats and a free video stream (weather permitting) will be available
