Hounds celebrate Braden's Night with 3-0 win

INDIANAPOLIS- On a very special night at Key Stadium, UIndy men's soccer honored its youngest team member and earned a 3-0 victory over visiting Missouri-St. Louis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

UIndy's TeamIMPACT student-athlete, Braden Tamosaitis, made his first start for the Greyhounds, debuting in the lineup wearing #10. Adding to the celebration of Braden's night, UIndy surprised the young player with just less than 1,100 beach balls to donate to Riley Hospital for Children, a passion of Braden's. In addition, UIndy for Riley was on hand, with more than $350 donated to the UIndy Dance Marathon, in honor of Braden's annual participation.

Neither team could score in the first half, but the Greyhounds (7-4-2; 7-3-1 GLVC) were able to put away the eventual game winner in the 47th minute, on David Kurz's first collegiate goal. Patrick O'Brien passed the ball from center, with Kurz taking it and sending it past the keeper to put UIndy up 1-0.

O'Brien would again provide the help, just more than seven minutes later on Jacob Meyer's team-leading fifth goal of the year. Meyer sent a laser in past the Triton (9-3-1; 8-3-0 GLVC) keeper to put the Greyhounds ahead 2-0. Daniel Wellmann would ice the win in the final two minutes of play, taking a ball from Zak Mitiche and finishing it into the bottom corner of the frame through a Triton defender's legs.

Wellmann's four shots led the Greyhounds, while Andrew Verhonik took the win in goal, making seven saves in facing 20 total shots to preserve the shutout.

The Greyhounds stay at home to close the weekend Sunday, hosting Maryville in a 2:30 p.m. contest. UIndy will honor seven senior student-athletes and one senior athletic trainer in its annual Senior Day celebration.
