Four double-digit scorers lead Hounds to sixth straight win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (6-0) capped its own Thanksgiving Classic with a 95-76 win against in-region Central State Saturday afternoon in Nicoson Hall.  Senior Dai-Jon Parker led four Greyhounds in double figures with a game-high 26 points.

Down 5-0 out of the gate, the Marauders (3-3) scored nine unanswered points to force an early Greyhound timeout, but UIndy responded with a 3-pointer from Jordan Loyd, a charge drawn by Lucas Barker and a tip-in by Parker to take control.

The bigger Greyhounds used their height advantage to generate 16 of their first 20 points from the paint, including a number of offensive put-backs.

After trailing by double digits, Central State pulled to within three with seven minutes to go in the half, but a 20-5 run by the Hounds flipped the momentum once again.

The Greyhounds shot 55 percent from the floor in the first half, and though Central State shot an even 50 percent, the Hounds forced 12 turnovers on the way to 50-35 edge at the break.

Both Loyd and Joe Lawson had 16 first-half points.

Parker caught fire in the final period, draining a four triples to help maintain to lead.  Parker scored 24 of his career-high 26 in the final 20 minutes.

The Marauders, who defeated Saint Joseph's in Friday's first game of the Classic, got as close as 12 points midway through the second half, but a 16-4 spurt by the home team all but put it away.  Parker accounted for nine points of the game-clinching surge.

The Hounds kept their double-double streak alive; Brennan McElroy's 17 points and 11 rebounds meant that at least one Greyhound has recorded a double-double in all six games this season.

McElroy added four assists and five steals, Lawson finished with 22 points on 11-of-21 shooting, while Barker amassed seven points and a game-high nine assists.

UIndy heads to Saint Joseph's for its GLVC opener next week.  Tip time from Rensselaer, Ind., is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Note: Four of UIndy's six wins to date have come against Midwest Region opponents.
