WINTER PARK, Fla. – UIndy went cold from the floor in a 63-42 loss to No. 12 Rollins College Tuesday night in the championship match of the Rollins Invitational.
The Greyhounds (3-5) managed to shoot just 29-percent, their lowest mark of the season, including 8-for-33 from three-point land. A remarkable second half from the Tars allowed them to run away with the decisive victory.
The first-half box score didn't look pretty, but UIndy kept the nationally-ranked hosts within striking distance throughout the entire 20 minutes. Each squad finished the half right around 30-percent from the field; the Greyhounds going 9-for-30 compared to the Tars' 9-for-32.
Right out of the gate the Tars (8-1) tempted their visitors to shoot the long ball, as 10 of UIndy's first 13 field goals were three-pointers. After hitting their first two, however, the Hounds missed the next eight.
After limiting the Tarleton State offense last night, UIndy held Rollins to its lowest first-half total of the season, and went into the half down just 22-21.
Sophomore
Nicole Anderson led the squad with nine points, and senior
Kelly Walter followed with eight points including a pair of triples.
Junior
Princess German, who entered Tuesday's game second on the Hounds in scoring, played only four first-half minutes after picking up two quick fouls at the start of the contest.
The Tars were a completely different team in the second half, starting with an 8-2 run to open their largest lead of the game to that point, 30-23. UIndy stopped the bleeding for a bit, but then surrendered a 10-point Rollins spurt to fall behind 40-28.
After hitting nine field goals the entire first half, the Tars sank 10 of their first 15 to open the final period and matched their first-half point total (22) midway through.
UIndy couldn't mimic Rollins' offensive surge, hitting a 3-for-14 field goal skid from the 17:33-mark until
Sarah Costello drained a three at 6:18, at which point the Tars led 51-34.
Rollins shot nearly 70-percent for the second half, and finished the game with a large 40-16 points in the paint advantage over UIndy. The Tars also scored an impressive 1.28 points per possession in the second half.
Free throw shooting – typically a strong suit for the Crimson and Grey – was a nonfactor in Tuesday's game as the Hounds went to the line for just four attempts.
Anderson finished as UIndy's leading scorer with 11 points to go along with three assists and two rebounds.
Walter was held scoreless in the final half, but finished with eight points, three boards, an assist and a block. She was also one of three players named to the Rollins Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Senior
Carly Lythjohan and freshman
Ashley Montanez each led the team with seven rebounds apiece, and Lythjohan added a game-high five assists, as well as three steals and two blocks. German poured in all eight of her points in the second half.

UIndy finishes 2014 with a home game Saturday against Lincoln Memorial. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
