#8 Hounds extend win streak at Maryville, 94-71

ST. LOUIS – The No. 8 UIndy men's basketball team (18-2, 10-2 GLVC) win its sixth straight with a 94-71 road victory at Maryville Thursday night.  Six Greyhounds finished in double figures, led by senior Reece Cheatham and Kendall Vieke with 14 points.

Thursday marked the seventh game this season that at least five Hounds scored in double digits.  Senior Tyrae Robinson and junior Joe Lawson went for 13 points, with Lawson adding nine rebounds.  Senior Leland Brown scored 12 and junior Brennan McElroy went for 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

"To have six guys in double figures says a lot about your ball club," said head coach Stan Gouard," and I think this the fifth time in the last six games with under 10 turnovers, so it's a great feeling when the guys are sharing the basketball and playing the right way."

UIndy got things going with a corner three from Robinson and an and-one dunk from Lawson, giving the Hounds an early 12-5 edge.

The Saints (10-9, 4-7) got within seven again at 25-18, but a pair of treys from Vieke helped push the lead into double digits for the remainder of the first half.  Four Hounds scored nine points or more in the first 20 minutes, led by 11 from Cheatham.

UIndy's seemingly-favorite play, an alley-oop from Cheatham to McElroy, started the second-half scoring to up the margin to 20 for the first time.

However, MU leading-scorer Armon Provo exploded for 10 points in the next two minutes to pull the Saints within 12 at the 15-minute mark.  Provo went on to score a game-high 21 points, all in the second half.

Four minutes later, Maryville crept to within 11, but UIndy answered with a fatal 13-0 flurry to all but seal it.

The Hounds shot 55 percent from the floor on the night while committing just nine turnovers.  They also earned a 34-21 edge on the glass and a 17-5 advantage on second-chance points.

UIndy makes the short trip across town to face the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday.  Tip time from the Mark Twain Building is scheduled for 4:15 pm ET.
