Big weekend in store for UIndy softball

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 17 UIndy softball team wraps up its regular season with an event-filled weekend at Baumgartner Field.  The Greyhounds will hold their annual "MDA Game," as well as welcome back alumni during Saturday's doubleheader versus Bellarmine.  UIndy will then honor its four senior student-athletes before Sunday's twin bill versus Southern Indiana.

In an effort to raise both awareness and money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, UIndy and Bellarmine will wear special jerseys Saturday showing a united front for Team Liam and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The name "Team Liam" was adopted in honor of Liam Ealy, nephew of Greyhound softball alum Megan (Hall) Slightom, who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at a young age.

Admission to Saturday's game will be free, with donations to the MDA being accepted at the gate.  Team Liam t-shirts will also be on sale, with proceeds going to the MDA.  Liam himself will also be on hand to throw out the first pitch.

In addition, some 20 former Greyhounds, as well as their family and friends, are expected to be in attendance Saturday, with the alumni being recognized in between games.

UIndy will hold its annual Senior Day on Sunday.  The softball team and the UIndy athletics department will honor Alexa Alfaro, Krysta Bradford, Cori Eckerle and Morgan Lewis prior to the start of game one.  Heading into the weekend, the quartet has helped the Greyhounds compile a stellar 176-39 (.819) record since 2011, good for the highest winningest percentage in any four-year period in program history.
