DETROIT
– The UIndy softball team saw its season come to an end Sunday, as the Greyhounds endured a 7-0 loss to host Wayne State in the final of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional 2.  UIndy finishes the year 44-13, while the Warriors (44-9) advance to the Super Regional May 16-17.

The Greyhounds could not stop Wayne State's red-hot march through the postseason.  Winners of 18 straight coming into the day, the Warriors are now a combined 6-0 in the GLIAC Tournament and NCAA Regional this season.

After plating a single run in first inning, WSU jumped on the Hounds for five tallies in the second.  The Warriors used five singles and two walks to fuel the rally.

With two runners already in and the bases loaded and only one out, head coach Melissa Frost pulled ace Morgan Foley in favor of fellow-sophomore Coryn Tirpak.  Foley (33-8) left the circle having thrown 430 pitches in the last three days.

Two more RBI singles followed until Tirpak induced a 5-3 double play to end the barrage.  Tirpak went on to pitch the final 5 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and zero walks.

Meanwhile, WSU pitcher Lyndsay Butler (23-4) tossed a gem.  Coming off a complete-game shutout versus Grand Valley Saturday, the GLIAC Pitcher of the Year surrendered just three hits while striking out 11.  She also finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs at the plate.

Taylor Russell, Cori Eckerle and Casey Williamson each had a single for UIndy, but no Greyhound reached second base.

Note: Seniors Alexa Alfaro, Krysta Bradford, Cori Eckerle and Morgan Lewis combined to help the Hounds to a stellar 184-44 (.807) record in their time on campus, good for the highest win total of any four-year span in program history.
