Williamson sets hit record as softball sweeps Lady Miners

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 18 UIndy softball team (15-5, 4-0 GLVC) recorded its second doubleheader sweep of the weekend at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind., Sunday, topping Missouri S&T by scores of 8-0 and 9-1.  The highlight came in game two when senior Casey Williamson earned her 234th career base hit to set a new program record.

In her continuing onslaught of the school record books, Williamson surpassed Jamie Keltz (2008-11) as the program's all-time hit leader with a sixth-inning single in the capper.  Williamson also holds the UIndy career benchmarks for doubles, triples and stolen bases and is nearing a number of others.

GAME 1
Junior pitchers Morgan Foley and Coryn Tirpak combined to shut out the Miners (1-8, 0-4) for all five innings.  Foley struck out five in three innings to get the win.  Both pitchers allowed just one hit and walked zero.

Offensively, UIndy piled on S&T starter Bethany Rader with 11 hits and eight runs.  The Greyhounds combined to go 13-for-19 (.684) at the plate, including five hits combined from the No. 1 and 2 hitters, Erika Goodwin and Sydney Russell.

Jessie Noone and Cassie Reed started a four-run rally in the second with a double and triple, respectively, while Goodwin's bases-loaded triple in the third all but clinched it.

GAME 2
Russell remained hot in the second game, ripping a single and an RBI double in her first two at bats.  The latter came after Noone, Reed and Katie Kelly started the second inning with three straight singles.

Sophomore Natalie Lalich ended it with her second and third RBIs of the game with a two-run single in the sxth.

Foley (11-3) got the ball again in game two, this time going the distance for her eighth complete game of the season.  She scattered six hits and struck out three, with the only Miner run coming in the fifth.

The Hounds look to add to their perfect conference record with a western trip next weekend to meet William Jewell and Rockhurt.  The doubleheader at WJC starts Mar. 21 at 1 p.m. ET.
