Williamson, Russell each break RBI record as Hounds sweep Pumas

INDIANAPOLIS – The 12th-ranked UIndy softball team (24-6, 11-1) swept a doubleheader versus in-state Saint Joseph's at Baumgartner Field Tuesday, 5-3 and 2-0.  Senior sluggers Casey Williamson and Taylor Russell shared the spotlight, as both broke the program record for RBIs in a career.

Russell turned the trick first, as her RBI single in game one upped her career total to 157, surpassing former program-leader Megan Russell (2007-10) – no relation.  Willamson later passed both Russells with two-run double in game two, lifting her career RBI sum to 158.

GAME 1
Williamson got the Hounds on the board with a two-run homer in the third inning.  She sent an 0-1 pitch over the right-field netting and onto State Street, plating herself and junior Erika Goodwin.

UIndy extended the lead on Katie Kelly's two-RBI single in the fourth.  Goodwin's leadoff triple in the fifth also led to a run when she was driven in by Russell's single.

Meanwhile, Natalie Lalich and Jenny Thompson each finsihed a single and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Morgan Foley (18-3) tossed five scoreless innings before reentering in the seventh to get the final two out and secure the win.  She finished with eight Ks in 5 2/3 IP, including striking out five of six batters in one stretch.

GAME 2
Foley (19-3) also got the start in game two, going the distance for the complete-game shutout.  She again fanned eight Pumas, while scattering five hits and four walks.

The Greyhounds' two runs came off the bat of Williamson in the third inning, as her two-out double in the right-center gap plated both Goodwin (bunt single) and Sydney Russell (walk).

Williamson and Goodwin each had two hits in the capper, while Jessie Noone recorded a single and a stolen base.

Weather permitting, the Greyhounds will travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine before returning home to host Southern Indiana Saturday at noon.
