Offensive explosion leads Hounds to season sweep of Walsh

INDIANAPOLIS – Sydney Hauffman scored a career-high five goals, while Hannah Burczyk, Chalane Morrison and Hana Priddy all netted hat tricks to help lead UIndy (6-7, 4-4 GLIAC) to a 19-10 win over Walsh University (3-8, 0-8 GLIAC) on a beautiful Friday night at Key Stadium.

These two teams met just two weeks ago in Canton, Ohio, where the Hounds ran away with a 21-7 victory.

A similar type of game ensued Friday, with the Greyhounds storming out to a quick 4-0 lead behind goals from four different starters. An Erika Mackenzie goal at the 18:02 mark extended the UIndy lead to 7-1, their largest of the opening half.

Hauffman's pair of goals to open the second frame squandered any hope of a Cavalier comeback. The Greyhounds would see their lead seesaw between eight and ten for the final 15 minutes, with Burczyk's goal at 1:31 ending a Walsh 3-0 run and proving to be the dagger.

UIndy was able to dominate the possession numbers thanks to Hana Priddy's exceptional play in the draw circle. The team's leader in draw controls entering Friday, Priddy collected a new career-best 11 draw controls in the win. As a team, the Hounds held an 18-13 advantage in draw controls.

Indianapolis peppered a season-high 41 shots at the Walsh tandem of Mikaela Faus and Meghan Skrypka. Faus started the game in cage for the Cavaliers, but was replaced midway through the first half by Skrypka, only to re-enter again later in the second.

The win, coupled with a Findlay loss tonight to Grand Valley State, moves the Greyhounds into sole possession of fourth place in the GLIAC standings. The conference's top-six teams advance to the conference tournament, with the first and second seeds receiving a bye and seeds three and four hosting an opening round game.

Winners of four of their last five, UIndy returns to Key Stadium on Sunday looking for another W, as they host Lake Erie (5-6, 3-4 GLIAC). Head coach Jillian Howley and the Hounds defeated her former school in the teams' first meeting back on April 1, however the Storm are riding high following a Friday night 12-11 overtime upset of McKendree.
