21-7 rout of Walsh gives Hounds consecutive conference wins for first time

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – An overnight snowstorm pushed back the start time of today's UIndy and Walsh women's lacrosse game, but the added wait didn't seem to bother the Hounds. Two days removed from its first conference victory in program history, UIndy (4-6, 2-3 GLIAC) picked up another with a 21-7 rout of the host Cavaliers (3-5, 0-5 GLIAC).

The win marks the second time of the year that the Greyhounds have won consecutive games, with victories over Urbana and Alabama-Huntsville in February marking the other.

Erika Mackenzie and Anna Rulapaugh led the way with five goals apiece, while Rulapaugh also added two assists for a season team-high seven points. The sophomore now leads the team in assists with 13 on the season.

A pair of goals from Mackenzie and Chalane Morrison in the first three minutes of play gave UIndy an early 2-0 lead. The Hounds are now 4-1 on the season when scoring first, the only loss coming in a 9-7 defeat to Tampa.

An explosive first half saw UIndy put up 11 goals in the opening frame, the most they have scored in a half all season, to take an 11-5 lead into the break.

The scoring didn't stop there, however, as the Hounds came out of the intermission to put up a ten-spot in the second half.

Along with Rulapaugh and Mackenzie, four other Greyhounds also found the back of the cage on multiple occasions. Sydney Hauffman (four goals, two assists), Morrison (three goals), Hana Priddy (two goals, one assist) and Hannah Burczyk (two goals) all had a hand in the Hounds' victory.

In cage, Irene Carlquist turned away five of the 12 shots she faced to earn her second consecutive win and fourth of the year.

Indianapolis will return to Key Stadium on Friday when they host Findlay (6-3, 3-1 GLIAC) in the GLIAC home opener for the Hounds.
