Greyhounds make it three in a row following 10-8 win over Findlay

INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhounds took advantage of a 6-1 scoring run over the middle 15 minutes of the second half to claim their first-ever three game winning streak, defeating Findlay (8-11, 5-3 GLIAC) 10-8 Friday.

A mixture of snow, rain and high winds cascaded upon Key Stadium, creating winter-like conditions for the second Friday of April.

"I really didn't think it (the weather) affected us much," said sophomore attacker Anna Rulapaugh afterwards. "We were able to practice in similar weather yesterday, so we had a good idea what to expect."

Rulapaugh scored two of her three goals in the game's first seven minutes to put UIndy (5-6, 3-3 GLIAC) ahead 2-0. The teams exchanged a pair of goals over the final 20 minutes of the first half, with the Hounds taking a 4-2 advantage into halftime.

Out of the break, it was the Oilers jumping out to a fast start in the second stanza. Mackenzie Barnwell and Graceann Conte each tallied goals to tie the game at 4-4, but the Greyhounds would score six of the next seven goals to put the game out of reach.

Sandwiched between a pair of goals from Sydney Hauffman, Hana Priddy also netted her lone score of the day. A Taylor Trice goal with ten minutes remaining briefly put an end to the UIndy run, before Erika Mackenzie scored back-to-back goals and Rulapaugh followed with her third of the day to extend the Greyhound lead to 10-5.

For the sophomore transfer from Pfeiffer University, Friday's hat trick was her third straight game with at least three goals after netting 10 goals in last weekend's two wins.

"I was in a bit of a slump earlier in the year," joked Rulapaugh. "But I've got to give a lot of credit to my teammates, we've been playing a lot better offensively, and it's really showing in our play."

Findlay would make it interesting down the stretch, scoring three goals in as many minutes to get it to 10-8. Irene Carlquist would make nine saves on the day, none bigger than a free position stop of Brie Caruso with 30 seconds left to ice it.

Along with Rulapaugh, Mackenzie also tallied a hat trick for the Hounds, while Hauffman added a pair and Hannah Burczyk and Hana Priddy each scored once.

The win now moves UIndy to 5-1 on the year when netting the game's first goal. Indianapolis outshot Findly, 33-25, and turned the ball over six fewer times than did the Oilers (23-17).

Indianapolis will return to Key Stadium on Sunday for the second of a five-game homestand. The Greyhounds welcome Tiffin (5-5, 3-2 GLIAC) to the Circle City for a 12 p.m. start.
