SPARKILL, N.Y. – Two late goals from
Anna Rulapaugh helped the UIndy women's lacrosse team earn a 7-6 road win Sunday at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Down 6-5 with roughly five minutes left in the game, Rulapaugh netted her second and third goals of the afternoon in a two-minute span to give the Greyhounds their first road victory of the season.
UIndy improves to 3-1 overall with the win, dropping the Spartans to 0-2.
Although they finished with 13 more shots than their hosts, the Hounds were limited early on by the stellar play of Spartan keeper Katherin Feigenbaum.
She racked up 10 first-half saves, helping St. Thomas Aquinas maintain a 2-1 lead after 30 minutes of action. Junior
Chalane Morrison's score near the nine-minute mark proved to be the only one of UIndy's 11 shots on goal to hit pay dirt.
The Hounds fared better on offense in the second half, getting a spark from Rulapaugh and freshman
Kailee King. The two combined for three goals in the first three minutes of the period, giving UIndy its first lead of the game, 4-2.
The Spartans responded with three straight goals of their own, swinging the scoreboard back in their favor at 5-4.
King later tallied her third goal, tying the game at 5 apiece. It marked her second collegiate hat trick and first since UIndy's season-opening win over Charleston.
As the clock continued to wind down, the Spartans regained the lead with a goal near the six-minute mark to make it 6-5.
That's when Rulapaugh took over, scoring once off a feed from Morrison and again just minutes later unassisted to seal the win.
She finished with four points overall, raising her team-leading season total to 22. King's goals gave her 10 for the year, tied with Rulapaugh for second most on the squad.
Kelly Pinkerton led the Hounds with four ground balls, and
Lauren Wagner followed with three.
The Greyhounds return to Key Stadium next week, hosting Alabama-Huntsville for a 1 p.m. start Saturday Mar. 4.
