Greyhounds roll past Golden Bears in non-conference showdown

ST. PAUL, Minn. – UIndy women's lacrosse got back in the win column with a 17-6 victory Friday evening against Concordia-St. Paul at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.

The non-conference victory improves the Greyhounds to 9-4 overall, and concludes the Golden Bears' regular season with an even 8-8 record.

Eight different Hounds scored in the win, and UIndy finished with more shots (32 to 22), ground balls (24 to 15) and saves (10 to 9) than Concordia-St. Paul.

The Greyhounds began and ended the first half on strong notes. They scored early and often to start, striking pay dirt on five of their first seven shots to storm out to a 5-0 lead before 13 minutes had elapsed.

Senior Chalane Morrison put UIndy on the board with the game's first two goals, the initial tally coming off an assist from classmate Erika Mackenzie.

Minutes later, redshirt-freshman Sarah Konecny added her second free position goal in as many games to make it 3-0.

Following a turnover by the home team on their next possession, UIndy sophomore Hannah Burczyk buried a feed from Morrison, making it 4-0 and forcing an early CSP timeout.

As the midway point neared, Morrison recorded her hat trick goal off of another assist from Mackenzie, running the Hounds' lead up to 5-0.

Concordia would settle in a bit, making better use of its possessions and finally cutting into the UIndy lead on Cassidy Leininger's goal near the 16-minute mark. Although the Hounds were limited to one shot over a six-plus-minute stretch, junior Anna Rulapaugh made it count with an unassisted goal to make it 6-1.

The Golden Bears added a goal three minutes later, but Burczyk answered with a man-up goal just moments after the home side was flagged for a yellow card.

After nearly six minutes of scoreless action, Burczyk again took advantage of a Golden Bears yellow card, netting a man-up goal to push the lead up to 8-2. With the goal, the South Lyon, Mich., native notched her second hat trick of the season in just her third game after missing time due to injury.

Less than 30 seconds later – following Morrison's third draw control of the evening – Burczyk found Mackenzie for her first goal of the game, making it 9-2.

Freshman Riley McClure helped the Hounds make it 10-2 prior to the halftime break, causing a turnover and slicing through the Golden Bears' defense, eventually assisting Burczyk's fourth score.

It took all of 28 seconds for the Hounds to score once the second half began, as Mackenzie scored off McClure's second assist.

After a quick Concordia-St. Paul score, sophomore Hana Priddy netted her first goal of the day to push the lead back to 12-3.

Rulapaugh broke through for her second score six minutes later, signaling a running clock as UIndy claimed a 10-goal advantage on its third man-up tally.

The outcome was all but decided by that point, especially after subsequent goals from Burczyk, Rulapaugh, McClure and freshman Micayla Gammon.

Burczyk tied a career-high with five goals, leading UIndy with six points in the win. Morrison followed with five points on three goals and a pair of assists.

Mackenzie finished with a season-high four points, and Rulapaugh and McClure each recorded three.

Sophomore goalie Lauren Granville racked up season-best 10 saves and six ground balls, and seven other Greyhounds finished with multiple ground balls. Hannah Reho led UIndy's defense with two caused turnovers.

UIndy resumes its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule Sunday, traveling to face first-year program Northern Michigan (2-10, 0-4 GLIAC) in Marquette, Mich., at 12 p.m. ET.
