Greyhounds close out regular season with dominant performance against Findlay

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's lacrosse team continued their strong play down the stretch, pulling away from Findlay in the second half on their way to an 18-7 win in the team's final regular season game.

Playing in front of her friends and family on Senior Day, Chalane Morrison ran circles around the Findlay (7-10, 2-5 GLIAC) defense on her way to a record-setting performance for the Greyhounds (12-4, 5-2 GLIAC). The Delta, B.C.-native potted seven goals and handed out four assists for a single-game program record 11 points.

Freshman Grace Gunneson added six goals and Hannah Burczyk potted a hat trick of her own. The team's only other senior - Erika Mackenzie - finished with a goal, as did Anna Rulapaugh.

UIndy opened the scoring just 66 seconds into the game on Burczyk's first tally of the day. The teams traded goals until Morrison's second of the half made it 3-2 Hounds at the 24:17 mark.

Findlay answered with three straight to take a 5-3 lead at the midway point of the first half but the Hounds found their stride offensively shortly after and closed out the first half with five straight goals to take an 8-5 lead into the locker room. Gunneson had three goals over the final 15 minutes while Burczyk and Morrison added on to their total for the day.

The teams traded goals out of the break before a 6-0 UIndy run put the game out of reach. The Hounds went on to score nine of the last 10 goals to seal their fourth straight win.

As impressive as the offense was, the UIndy defense was stifling all afternoon. Shots were 41-12 in favor of the Greyhounds with Findlay mustering just two shots over the final 30 minutes of play. Sophomore Irene Carlquist (3-0) took over in goal early in the first half and stopped four shots to earn the win.

Defensively, Genevieve Jablonski forced a team-high four turnovers. Rulapaugh, Morrison and Gunneson all tied for the team lead with three ground balls.

The Greyhound will have a day off as they prepare to host an opening round game in the 2017 GLIAC Tournament on Tuesday. Stay tuned to UIndyAthletics.com to find out who the Hounds will be facing and what time they begin post-season play.
