NORTH CANTON, Ohio – UIndy women's lacrosse turned in a complete-game performance Sunday at Walsh University, controlling both ends of the field in a 15-3 victory at Vasco Field.
The Greyhounds dominated the box score, finishing with lopsided numbers in ground balls (20 to 11), draw controls (14 to 5) and shots (35 to 11), while recording only 10 turnovers to the Cavaliers' 22.
UIndy moves to 8-3 overall with the win, and 2-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Walsh falls to 7-4 (0-2).
The Hounds' primary offensive catalyst, senior
Chalane Morrison, was involved early on in the attack. She assisted on the game's opening goal from sophomore
Hana Priddy, and added two scores of her own soon after to make it 3-1.
Walsh cut into the deficit with a free position goal near the 18 minute mark, but UIndy sophomore
Sarah Konecny netted her first of the game 30 seconds later, starting what would become a 6-0 Greyhound run that all but buried the Cavs.
Before the end of the first half, Morrison and Konecny would each find the back of the net again, as would junior
Anna Rulapaugh and senior
Erika Mackenzie. The Hounds carried an 8-2 advantage into the break.
UIndy was just as efficient in the second half, surrendering only one goal across 30 minutes while potting seven more.
Freshman
Kailee King opened the period with a free position goal, her 15th score this season.
After a man-up goal from Walsh, UIndy closed the game on another 6-0 scoring sprint to cruise to the finish line.
Morrison scored twice more, finishing with a team-high five goals and seven points to increase her season totals to 34 and 45, respectively. She ultimately led UIndy in caused turnovers and draw controls, as well.
Priddy also added a goal in the second, while sophomore
Hannah Burczyk (twice) and freshman
Micayla Gammon each potted scores of their own.
Rulapaugh finished Sunday with four points, dishing three assists to go with her first-half goal. Burczyk, King,
Kylie Backus and
Krista Temple each had assists, as well.
Seven Hounds finished with multiple ground balls, led by three apiece from Gammon and sophomore
Laura McKee. Along with Morrison's three caused turnovers, defenders
Riley McClure and
Hannah Reho each forced two.
Sophomore
Lauren Granville turned in another strong performance in goal for the Hounds, recording five saves while allowing just three Walsh scores in 60 minutes.
UIndy returns home next Saturday to host GLIAC rival McKendree for a 1 p.m. ET start.
