GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – UIndy's men's soccer team came up short in their season opener against Northern Michigan on Thursday, losing 1-0 on a second-half goal in Grand Rapids.
The teams were level at halftime, but David Feldmann's 78th-minute goal for Northern Michigan gave the Wildcats the lead for good.
The Hounds had plenty of opportunities, but only put three of their 11 shots on frame, were called offsides three times and failed to score on all ten of their corners.
Northern Michigan made the most of their few opportunities, putting four of their six shots on goal and spoiling goalkeeper
Miles Palmer's clean sheet.
Three Hounds were booked in the game:
Andrew Dunkin (36'),
James Jenkins (55') and
Javier Steinwascher (67').
HOUND BYTES
From Head Coach John Higgins: "Give credit to Northern Michigan. They were difficult to play against, and they battled really well. It was a typical first game of the season for us unfortunately, where we just wasted too many goal-scoring opportunities.

"Our overall performance was good, and we created enough to win the game. We defended well throughout and limited them to few chances, but when we let teams stick around we are always in danger of losing an unlucky goal like we did.

"It's a long season and right now we just need to stick to the game plan to make sure we are getting better as the season progresses."
UP NEXT
The Hounds' next match will be on Saturday when they face Cedarville University in a neutral-site meeting in Louisville, Ky., at noon ET.
