Hounds clinch road win at Rockhurst with late free throws

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UIndy men's basketball team (9-4, 3-2 GLVC) overcame its first halftime deficit of the season on Saturday afternoon to defeat Rockhurst, 76-69, from Mason-Halpin Field House.

Tate Hall recorded 22 points for the Hounds, while Jesse Kempson poured in eight points and pulled down eight boards. Eric Davidson had a game-high 24 points on six-of-11 shooting from three-point range.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhound defense held the Hawks scoreless for nearly three minutes to begin the game as CJ Hardaway Jr. and Davidson paced the visitors to a 7-2 early advantage. Davidson drilled his second three-pointer of the half to double the Rockhurst point total of seven at the 13-minute mark. Nine minutes later, Rockhurst took its first lead of the game on a second-chance dunk and grew the lead to six before the halftime buzzer.

UIndy went on an 18-8 run to begin the second half to regain the lead, fueled by four different scorers and back-to-back three-pointers by Hall. The teams traded baskets in the middle minutes on the heels of Hall, who scored each of his 22 points in the final frame. Ajay Lawton knotted the game at 69 apiece with under 1:24 left and scored five straight points to cap the comeback for the Hounds and win, 76-69.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Tate Hall's 22 points is his second-highest total of his career. It is the second time this season in which the sophomore has recorded 20 or more points with the previous time coming against Kentucky State.

The Hounds led at halftime in each of the team's first 12 games prior to Saturday's deficit at the break. Free throws were key down the stretch as the Greyhounds went six-for-eight from the charity stripe in the second half after only attempting two in the first 20 minutes.

Davidson's six three-pointers is the third time this season the senior has recorded that many, and it is the second time in three games. The Carmel native is now 55-for-111 this season as he continues to climb in the UIndy record book. He is shooting 49.5 percent from deep this season.

UP NEXT
The Hounds travel to Evansville, Ind. next Thursday for their second tilt of the season against Southern Indiana. Tip is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET from the Physical Activities Center.
