UIndy men's basketball head coach Stan Gouard
was named the NCAA Division II National Coach of the Week by HoopDirt.com presented by Just Play Solution on Monday morning after leading the Hounds to a 2-0 Thanksgiving week record, and 6-0 to begin the 2018-19 campaign.
Gouard is now eligible for consideration as the DII National Coach of the Year award, which will be announced after the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
The Greyhounds trailed by as many as 10 points with under 10 minutes remaining against Lake Superior State last Wednesday afternoon before scoring the final seven tallies of the second half to force overtime. UIndy then came back from a five-point deficit in the extra time to down the Lakers, 91-90, inside Nicoson Hall. The win improved the Hounds to 5-0 on the year, including a 4-0 mark against teams from the state of Michigan.
UIndy returned from the Thanksgiving holiday on Friday afternoon to fend off Wilberforce University, 95-79. Jordache Mavunga
went for his second straight double-double in the win, while as a team the Hounds forced 19 turnovers to total 24 points off the thefts.
Gouard now has 191 career wins, all on the Greyhound bench. Already third in program history, the 11th-year head man sits just four from second place to tie Harry Good.
