ALLENDALE, Mich. - After scoring three straight goals to tie the game at three apiece, the No. 8 UIndy women's lacrosse team (6-2, 2-1 GLIAC) surrendered 13 more scores at No. 16 Grand Valley State before falling to the Lakers, 16-8, on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers only needed 27 seconds to score on one of the country's best defenses, and rattled off two more in the next couple minutes to take an early 3-0 lead on the Hounds. However, the Greyhounds began to possess the ball and locked down their defense, as
Grace Gunneson scored twice and
Delaney Davidson once to tie the game midway through the first half. With 12:27 remaining in the half, the Lakers scored their first of five in a row, the run lasting over six minutes long.
Anna Rulapaugh found the back of the cage with five minutes left to cut the deficit in half at 8-4 heading into the break.
It was much of the same in the second half, as Grand Valley scored six of the first seven goals. Davidson answered quickly after the Lakers tallied the first score of the second frame, but then the hosts tacked on another five to stretch the lead to 14-5.
Abigail Lagos scored twice in less than two minutes around the 16-minute mark, and Gunneson added her third of the game 10 minutes later. The scoring went silent for the next four minutes before
Riley McClure won the draw control and ran her way to another response-goal, making the score 17-9. Rulapaugh scored her second of the game and 13th of the season with 37 seconds left, which would mark the final goal of the game.

Grace Gunneson scored three goals in the loss, marking the fifth time this season the sophomore has tallied three or more. The Rockford, Mich. native has now scored 12 times in the past three contests.
