Greyhounds pull off huge win over #13 Lakers

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 15 UIndy women's lacrosse team (10-3, 6-2 GLIAC) staved off the No. 13 Grand Valley State Lakers (9-4, 7-1 GLIAC) on Friday evening at Key Stadium, as Lauren Granville made eight saves in the second half. Lauryn Hardoy had a game-high six goals, while Delaney Davidson added four tallies. The Greyhounds defeated the Lakers, 18-16, for the team's first win over Grand Valley in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to the teams' meeting on March 29, the Lakers scored two quick goals to open the scoring on the night. Davidson and Cara Brown answered to tie the game after just three-and-a-half minutes. The teams traded goals, with Grand Valley getting up by two scores a couple times, but UIndy came back with a response each time. Grace Gunneson and Davidson scored again before Hardoy put her name in the scoring column for the first time midway through the half, then freshman tied it at eight apiece at the 7:15 mark. The Lakers scored two straight goals again, but Hardoy found the back of the cage just before the break for the Hounds to only trail by one at halftime.

After Destinie Katz and Hardoy scored to begin the second half, the Lakers rattled off three straight of their own to take another two-goal advantage. Granville, who was pulled after just 10 minutes in the first half after allowing six goals with no saves, entered five minutes into second period. The junior would proceed to allow just three goals, while making eight saves, in the final 25 minutes.

The Hounds, on the other hand, scored seven goals the final 25 minutes, with Hardoy and Burczyk each adding a pair. Cara Brown, Davidson, and Gunneson also scored a goal late, with Brown's proving to be the game-winner.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Hardoy's six goals marks the second-straight game that the freshman has tallied six, which is a team-high in a game this season. The Granite Bay, Calif. native now has a team-best 36 goals and 57 points in her rookie campaign.

With eight saves, Granville ties her second-highest total this season, when she had eight stops at Tiffin on March 31. The junior's season-high is 10 saves in the season-opening loss to Lindenwood.

Brown was all over the stat sheet in the team's win, winning seven draws, picking up two ground balls, causing one turnover, scoring twice, and recording one assist. Her seven draw control wins raises her season-total to 15. Riley McClure was also a force on the defensive end once again, winning eight draws and scooping up five ground balls. The sophomore also caused three turnovers.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach James Delaney: "Gutsy win. I think it took a full 60 minutes from everyone that played today; we got contributions from all over. It wasn't perfect, but I think we were there for the full 60 and that really helped us pull out the win tonight."

"Lauren Granville...what can you say? The mental toughness to get pulled, come back in the second half, and was ultimately the difference in the game. We got contributions from everyone though; when it's your turn, it's your time to step up and Lauren stepped up for us today. I can't be happier for a kid."

"Cara Brown has constantly gotten better throughout the year. There's been more pressure on her as a freshman middy than any other freshman middy in the country. There was a point in the game where I looked at her and said, 'It's time to grow up,' and I definitely think she grew up today. That kid is going to be one of the best middy's in the country, if she isn't already."

"I'm super proud of the entire team; it took all 30 girls to win this. There's players who didn't play a single minute tonight that contributed to this win with our great scout team giving our offense and defense great looks all week. There's not one individual that won us this game."
