Hounds avenge earlier loss to Tiffin, defeat Dragons to stretch winning streak to five

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's lacrosse team (11-3, 7-2 GLIAC) won its fifth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, capping off a weekend with a pair of victories over ranked opponents after the 15-13 triumph against No. 25 Tiffin (8-6, 5-4 GLIAC) at Key Stadium. It was a slow start for the Greyhounds, who trailed 6-1 in the first half before doubling the Dragons output the rest of the way for the GLIAC win. Just over two weeks ago, the Hounds dropped a 15-9 decision at Tiffin.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It took nearly 16 minutes for UIndy to score its second goal of the game, as Lauryn Hardoy sandwiched a Greyhound goal between a pair of three-score runs by the visiting Dragons. The Greyhounds scored six straight themselves thereafter, with four coming in a four-minute span before the first half came to a close. Cara Brown, Anna Rulapaugh, and Destinie Katz each got in the scoring column for the Hounds, while Hardoy added her second of the game, as the hosts trailed 6-5 at the break.

Grace Gunneson and Rulapaugh tallied the first two scores of the second half, giving the Hounds their first lead of the game before the Dragons evened the scoring for the final time. Another 6-0 run by UIndy gave it a commanding 13-7 advantage, with two more coming from Hardoy and Rulapaugh, who each finished with four goals. Katz and Abigail Lagos also scored during the run.

The Dragons scored six of the final eight goals scored on the day, but it was too little too late for the Green and Gold. Brown and Gunneson found the back of the cage once more, proving the difference in the 15-13 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Following her career-best seven wins on the draw on Friday against Grand Valley, Cara Brown secured another five on Sunday afternoon as the team won fewer draws than its opponent for the first time this season. Riley McClure won another four in the win.

Irene Carlquist proved a spark in the first half, entering the game off the bench after just 12 minutes, similar to Friday night. On Sunday, however, the junior keeper completed the game to earn the win, stopping eight Tiffin shots, while allowing nine goals.

Destinie Katz led the team with four ground balls, the first time she has led the team in the category this season. The sophomore assist-leader also tallied a pair of goals, while adding a couple helpers.

Anna Rulapaugh scored four times on Sunday, the most times the senior has done so this season. The Churchton, Md. native now has 98 goals in her UIndy career.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds have three games remaining on the docket before GLIAC tournament time, which will all come on the road, as Sunday's win was the home finale for UIndy. The Hounds will travel up to Grand Rapids, Mich. next Sunday afternoon for a conference tilt at Davenport.
