Hounds split with Maryville on Senior Day

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy softball team wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader split versus Maryville Sunday afternoon, blanking the Saints, 3-0, in the opener before losing, 2-1, in game two.

Prior to first pitch, UIndy honored its two seniors in Julia Liceaga and Jessie Noone. Liceaga, who came to UIndy in 2017 after transferring for Murray State, has been a fixture behind the plate as the Hounds' everyday catcher. Noone, meanwhile, has started in the outfield in every single game the last four years and will finish her career in the program's career top 10 in a number of offensive categories.

The two have helped UIndy to a 168-57 (.747) record the last four seasons, with Noone being part of the Hounds' 2015 "World Series" team.

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, Maryville 0
After managing just one hit through the first five innings, the Greyhounds came alive with a pair of home runs in the sixth that proved to be the difference. Brooke Montgomery started the rally with a one-out infield single, becoming the first Hound to reach base since the first inning. Taylor Danielson followed with a two-run blast to straight away center. Shannon Schuetz capped the scoring with a solo shot to left.
Lauren Honkomp (16-7) out-dueled Maryville starter Alyssa Callans to get the pitching win. The former finished with a three-hit shutout, fanning three and walking zero in seven innings.

GAME 2 | Maryville 2, UIndy 1
The second game proved another pitchers' duel, this time with freshman Haylie Foster going up against Maryville senior Sheridon Sprague. Though Foster (10-2) struck out more and allowed less hits, it was the upperclassman that would get the win, as the UIndy offense generated just one run.

Foster herself was the lone Hound to cross, as she coaxed a walk and later scored on a Schuetz single in the second. Schuetz and Noone were the only Greyhounds with two hits.
