INDIANAPOLIS – The 15th-ranked UIndy women's lacrosse team (8-3, 4-2 GLIAC) celebrated Senior Night with a lopsided 27-3 win against visiting Northern Michigan Friday. Prior to the opening draw, UIndy honored senior
Anna Rulapaugh. A native of Churchton, Md., Rulapaugh was part of the inaugural UIndy women's lacrosse team in 2016. She is the Greyhounds' all-time leader in career points (145) and career assists (58).
Â
After the game, Head Coach
James Delaney discussed the importance of a player like Rulapaugh to the young lacrosse program.
Â
"We'll give a lot of credit to Anna, and also a couple of alums in
Chalane Morrison and
Erika Mackenzie. All three of them transferred here at the same time (in 2016), and they really fast-forwarded the growth process of our program. We're forever indebted to the three of them for taking a chance on us."
Â
Delaney continued: "With Anna being the lone senior, and leader from day one this year, we wouldn't be where we are; No. 15 in the country, a team that's been in the top 10 this year, and a team that has true postseason aspirations."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds scored three early goals in the span of a minute and did not look back. They went on to tally nine unanswered goals and later took a 16-2 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Â
When it was all said and one, a whopping 14 Greyhounds had found the back of the net. Redshirt-freshman
Abigail Lagos finished with a game-high four goals, while Rulapaugh and
Cara Brown each added hat tricks.
Â
One game after setting the program record for most assists with 10, sophomore
Destinie Katz totaling six more helpers Friday. Junior
