ROLLA, Mo. – Coming off a rare week where they only had one game, the UIndy women's basketball team was in action Monday afternoon to make up their game with Missouri S&T that was postponed a week and a half ago. The Miners came into today's game just 2-4 in GLVC play, losing their last time out to McKendree. The Hounds were looking for their first conference win of the year, but fell on the road to the Miners, 81-61.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a tightly contested game throughout most of the opening frame. UIndy led by as much as seven points early on with
Taylor Drury and
Laura Thomas sparking the offense for the Greyhounds. Thomas led the way for UIndy with six first quarter points and Drury chipped in with five of her own before heading to the bench with two fouls. S&T took advantage of Drury on the bench, going inside for a pair of layups, but
Claire Carlton nailed a triple to beat the buzzer to tie the game at 19 after one.
Katie Sowa hit a couple of three's early in the second quarter to ignite the UIndy offense. The Miners hung tough in the quarter, sinking a three just before the buzzer of their own to tie the game at 34 all heading into the break.
S&T started pull away from UIndy halfway through the third quarter after a Miner three-pointer and jump shot. The Miner lead inflated to seven but the Greyhounds were not phased.
Shira Sasson hit a floater in the lane and came back on the next possession with another triple to cut the lead to three. The Miners went on 9-0 run after those quick five points from UIndy until
Taylor Dillard drove in for a layup at the end of the third to trim the lead to 10 heading into the fourth period. The fourth quarter was similar to the end of the quarter for UIndy as Missouri S&T made threes and got to the foul line, capping off the win for the Miners.
