INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off their first conference win Thursday night against Rockhurst, the UIndy women's basketball team was back in action Saturday afternoon when William Jewell came to Nicoson Hall. The game was tightly contested in the first half, but the Hounds locked down the Cardinals in the second half to come out on top for their second-consecutive conference win.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy went to the long ball early, shooting eight three-pointers in the first quarter making four of their attempts.
Laura Thomas and
Taylor Drury each sank one triple in the first quarter. Both teams went back and forth throughout the quarter but it was UIndy who led by one at the end of the first frame. The Greyhounds started the second quarter with a three-point jumper from
Taylor Dillard to push their lead to four and followed it up with a
Katie Sowa layup. William Jewell went on an 8-0 run towards the end of the quarter before Dillard hit another jumper to cut the lead back to just two. The Cardinals got a put-back layup just before time expired in the half to push the lead back to four heading into the break.
Â
UIndy took the lead halfway through the third quarter after another Drury three-pointer and did not look back from there. The Greyhounds maintained a multiple possession lead throughout the end of the quarter and ended the frame with a five point lead heading into the game's final 10 minutes. Jewell tied the game with seven minutes to go but the Hounds were not phased, taking the lead back after an
Emma Benoit layup and another Drury trey. Jewell started fouling to try and get the ball back and give them a chance at the end but the Hounds went 11-for-12 from the line in the quarter to seal the six point conference win.
