Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Cody Wainscott, Sports Information Director

Hounds limit Bulldogs to just 26.7% from deep to win, 83-79

INDIANAPOLIS – Leading by as many as 18 midway through the second half, the UIndy men's basketball team (9-4, 2-1 GLVC) was forced to fend off Truman (8-6, 3-1 GLVC) in the waning minutes to seal its third straight win. The Greyhounds held the Bulldogs to just 26.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and 40.3 percent from the field.

Prior to the game, head coach Stan Gouard honored CJ Hardaway for scoring his 1,000th-career point on December 1 at Lewis.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds used a 31-9 first-half run to lead by 15 late, with Marcus Latham pouring in 11 points during the stretch. UIndy had 20 points in the paint in the first 20 minutes, leading to a 10-point lead at the break.

A three-pointer from Tye Wilburn followed by a layup by Jesse Kempson stretched the Greyhound lead to 18 with 9:23 remaining, but Truman forced seven second-half turnovers to get within 10 with six minutes remaining.

Another Bulldog bucket cut the UIndy lead to just three before Jimmy King sank a baseline jumper with 4:14 on the clock. The Hounds held off the Bulldogs in the final seconds after the visitors got back within a pair, with Hardaway putting the game out of reach with a layup.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Truman entered the evening shooting better than 39 percent from three-point range before UIndy held it to just 26.7 percent in the win. Overall, the Bulldogs launched 30 from behind the arc with only eight going through the hoop.

Trevor Lakes led the Hounds with 16 points in spite of shooting just two-for-eight from three-point range. The sophomore is proving to be more valuable than a deep threat, as he went seven-of-15 from the floor against Truman, and grabbed eight rebounds, surpassing his total from a year ago.

Opposing defenses have held Jimmy King to single digits in the scoring column each of the past two games, but that has not stopped the junior from finding the open man. The Indianapolis native dished out another seven assists on Saturday, and recorded five rebounds in the win.

CJ Hardaway scored another 15 points against Truman, marking the fourth straight contest the senior has finished with that many. Hardaway has reached double figures in each of the last 10 games.

Senior Jesse Kempson is just nine points shy of becoming the 41st men's basketball player in program history to reach 1,000 career tallies. The last Greyhound to surpass that mark was Eric Davidson on February 15, 2018 at Missouri S&T. UIndy travels to Rolla, Mo. to battle the Miners next Saturday.

Junior transfer Jordache Mavunga finished with 11 points and nine rebounds against the Bulldogs, nearly recording his fourth double-double of the season.

UP NEXT
Before heading to Rolla, the Greyhounds will take on the Drury Panthers in Springfield, Mo. next Thursday at 8:45 p.m.
