GREENSBURG, Pa. – Shawn Kimble netted a feed from
Brian Robb in overtime on Saturday afternoon to give the No. 19 UIndy men's lacrosse team (2-0) a big-time victory over No. 3 Seton Hill (2-1).
The Greyhounds' win against the Griffins is the highest-ranked triumph in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Seton Hill grabbed an early 2-0 lead before
Nathaniel Webber closed out a 3-1 Greyhound run to even the game at three apiece early in the second quarter.
Parker Kump scored his third goal of the afternoon to even the game at five, but SHU's Colin Mitchell snuck a shot past
Jarod Kimble just before halftime to give the Griffins their third separate lead.
Down 7-5 late in the third,
Jack Johnson and Kump found Kimble within a two-minute stretch to knot the game heading into the fourth quarter. Trailing once again,
Drew Billig tallied a pair of scores, including his second man-up goal to give the Hounds a 9-8 lead with five minutes remaining.
Ninety seconds later, however, Seton Hill scored yet again to force overtime. With a minute left in the overtime session, Robb passed to a crossing Kimble, who put the ball in the back of the net for the first Hounds' first-ever win over Seton Hill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Shawn Kimble's hat trick is the eighth of his career, and first of his senior season. The Rochester, N.Y. native also recorded two assists for the second five-point game of his career.
Billig and Kump each finished with a hat trick on Saturday, marking the second time this season the duo has done so. Along with Kump's helper against Griffins, the pair lead the team with nine points apiece.
Jarod Kimble made 12 saves between the pipes in the win, marking the 10th time of his career the senior has recorded double-digit stops. The keeper also picked up a game-high 10 ground balls.
HOUND BYTES
Head coach
Greg Stocks: "I think in spite of us trailing a lot, our defense stepped up in crunch time and made some huge stops, especially Kimble in goal. Our offense kept fighting and scored some timely goals, and that hard work paid off in the end. This was a signature win for our program and should give the guys a ton of confidence as the season continues."
UP NEXT
The Hounds welcome in Lincoln Memorial next Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest. The Railsplitters are 2-0 heading into their matchup with No. 18 Lindenwood on Saturday.
