Polakovich grabs 12 boards in Hounds' loss to Southern Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (15-6, 8-3 GLVC) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday evening inside Nicoson Hall, as the visiting Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (16-5, 8-3 GLVC) toppled the Greyhounds, 85-70.

Trevor Lakes led all scorers with 23 points, including seven field goals from behind the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds failed to match the Eagles offensive tempo in the first 20 minutes, trailing by 19 at the break. Southern Indiana shot 52.9 percent from the field in the first half, while UIndy struggled with just eight made field goals.

Down by as many as 26 with 14 minutes left in the second half, the Hounds pushed the deficit to 11 after a made free throw by CJ Hardaway. UIndy could not capitalize on the shots at the bucket, however, and Southern Indiana quickly grew the lead back to 19.

Lakes drilled another pair of 3-pointers late and Marcus Latham scored five of his 15 in the final 80 seconds, but an empty possession with under 30 seconds halted the foul effort and closed out the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Thursday marked the fourth game this season Lakes has reached at least 20 points, with three coming in GLVC action. The sophomore made eight field goals in the loss, the most he has recorded this season.

Freshman Jacob Polakovich grabbed 12 rebounds in 13 minutes of action against Southern Indiana, upping his season-high from 11 last Thursday at McKendree.

The Hounds turned the ball over 11 times compared to the Eagles' 14, marking just the second loss this season when UIndy records less turnovers than its opponent. The Greyhounds are now 6-2 on such occasions.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Stan Gouard: "We were flat to start the game. I thought we had a great week of practice in preparation for today, but I don't know where we were the first half. It was extremely disappointing.

"We come back tomorrow and we got to have amnesia. Everyone has to be better Saturday night than they were tonight."
