SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 11 UIndy women's lacrosse team (2-1) dropped its first game of the season on Saturday, with the defending national champions and No. 1 Le Moyne flexing its muscles by toppling the Greyhounds, 17-5.
Â
Cara Brown led the Hounds with two goals, while also picking up a pair of ground balls.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Playing in their first game this season, the Dolphins showed no signs of rust scoring three times in the first six minutes. After a goal by
Julia O'Brien soon after, Le Moyne ran the score up to 10-1 after 22 minutes of action.
Â
Peyton Romig tallied an unassisted goal late in the half, as the Hounds trailed 11-2 at the break.
Â
Le Moyne controlled the final 30 minutes similarly to the first, outscoring UIndy, 6-3, in the second half.
Cara Brown scored twice, bookending a netter from
Delaney Davidson within five minutes of each other, but that would be it for the Hounds offensively.
Â
Defensively, the Hounds forced 15 Dolphins' turnovers, with
Riley McClure leading the way with three causes.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Brown posted her first multi-goal game since the GLIAC tournament championship back on May 6, 2018.
Â
McClure now has nine caused turnovers to start the 2019 season, recording three in each game. The junior also added two wins on the draw in the loss.
Â
Le Moyne netminder Hannah George proved why she was named the IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year last season, stopping six of the Hounds' 11 shots.
