INDIANAPOLIS – It was a rainy day at Key Stadium on Sunday afternoon, but the No. 12 UIndy women's lacrosse team (8-1, 5-0 GLIAC) shone on the field with a 13-7 win over No. 22 Grand Valley State (6-3, 3-1 GLIAC).
Â
Freshman keeper
Cassidy King put on a clinic in net against the Lakers, compiling 14 saves to earn the win. On the offensive end,
Lauryn Hardoy registered a game-high seven points, including five goals.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Grace Gunneson opened the scoring for the Hounds, netting a laser from
Destinie Katz just 40 seconds into the game. After the Lakers responded with a goal by Carly Shisler, UIndy received three straight scores from
Krista Temple,
Julia O'Brien, and Hardoy.
Â
The Greyhounds would not trail the rest of the day.
Â
Grand Valley State scored twice in a seven-minute span to cut the deficit to 4-3, however, Hardoy found the back of the cage four times as the Greyhounds rattled off seven consecutive goals to lead 11-4 at the break.
Â
The defense remained stout in the second half, as King made eight saves in the final 30 minutes and the back line limited the Lakers to just three goals. A pair of freshmen –
Hannah Bunce and
Jess Soenen – tallied goals for the Hounds to keep the Laker threat at bay and win, 13-7.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
King has been lights out since allowing 17 goals at Le Moyne on March 2, totaling 30 saves the last six games, while allowing just 15 scores.
Â
The Greyhounds now have four players with at least 30 points after O'Brien's two-goal performance on Sunday. Katz, who handed out four assists in the win, leads the team with 56 points and 33 helpers.
Â
Bunce caused three turnovers against the Lakers, while scooping up one ground ball. The rookie's second-half score marked the sixth straight contest in which she has scored.
Â
Riley McClure picked up one ground ball in the win, and is now just two away from reaching the century mark. The junior surpassed 100 caused turnovers on Friday in the win over Davenport.

HOUND BYTES
"These are the types of games we recruited her for," UIndy head coach
James Delaney said of the rookie netminder. "She's a big-time player in big-time moments. She's going to be a champion here at UIndy, and we're super lucky to have her."
Â
Delaney also gave props to the defense in front of King, citing the team's eagerness for a challenge. "They stepped up. We got some phenomenal players down there and it's really exciting to see them exert their will against a strong opponent."
