Romig reaches 200 DC’s in blowout win

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 12 Indianapolis Greyhounds (4-1) took down the Lake Erie Storm (2-2) on Saturday afternoon. Indianapolis got back on a winning streak, as they took a second consecutive victory at Key Stadium.

Riley McClure continued a fantastic junior season, totaling seven caused turnovers on the Storm. That total tied the single-game record, also owned by McClure. Lauren Hardoy more than doubled her total goals this season, placing seven shots inside the net.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds opened up the dominant performance right out of the gates, scoring eight consecutive goals in the first 10 minutes. The first six included a different Greyhound each time, as the offense was facilitated by the entire team all match long. Hardoy, Destinie Katz, and Krista Temple each had multiple scores at the half.

The Storm scored their only two goals in the first 30 minutes.

The Hounds shut out the storm in the second half, not allowing a single goal. Hannah Burczyk and Hannah Bunce came out and each tallied a pair of goals. The Greyhounds capitalized on Lake Erie penalties, scoring two second-half goals while being a man-up.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Peyton Romig eclipsed 200 career draw controls in this game, capturing 13 on the afternoon. Romig leads the Greyhounds all-time in draw controls with 205.

Hardoy's seven stellar goals proved to run with the best, as her total tied fourth all-time in single-game goals.

The Greyhounds took advantage on their draw control wins to keep their offense at a high pace. Taking seven free-position shots, it helped account for 44 total shots, 32 being on goal. Their defense also stood above the Storm, as they held the visitors to only five successful clears on 14 attempts. Forcing 15 turnovers, the No. 12 Greyhounds performed at a high level on all cylinders.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach James Delaney: "I'm super proud of Peyton hitting 200 career draw controls in just 25 games. This isn't a fluke; she works hard everyday to be one of the best draw specialists in the country."

"Week-in and week-out, McClure is one of the best defenders in the country and deserving of all the accolades she has and will receive."

"I'm happy with the balance and team mentality that our offense brings everyday. To have nine multi-point scorers and 18 assisted goals are the stats I'm most proud of."

UP NEXT
Indianapolis will look towards their schedule to Friday, as they kick back up GLIAC matchups against Maryville. That matchup on March 15 will commence at 5 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo. The Saints currently sit at 1-2 (0-0 GLIAC) before their matchup later today against Lewis.
