ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After surrendering three straight goals in the opening quarter, the No. 8 UIndy men's lacrosse team (11-1, 5-0 GLVC) ran away from host Maryville University (9-4, 3-3 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon to earn its program record-setting 11th victory.
Â
The Greyhounds scored nine of the next 10 goals after the Saints tied it at three apiece early, with
Matthew Johnson netting three during the stretch.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy grabbed a quick 3-0 advantage, with Johnson and
Shawn Kimble finding the back of the cage. The Saints would respond, however, scoring three times themselves, including twice in the final minute to head to the second quarter with a tie game.
Â
Johnson rode his momentum in the second frame, leading the four-goal charge with two more of his own.
Parker Johnson snuck one past the Maryville keeper with 13 seconds left in the quarter to give the Greyhounds a 7-3 lead at the break.
Â
Faceoff specialist
Robbie Berardi continued to dominate at the x, giving UIndy several more opportunities to add to its lead. After a Saints goal six minutes into the third, the Hounds rattled off five straight scores, a streak that would trickle into the final frame. The offense would not quit, finishing the game with a five-goal quarter and winning 14-7.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Jarod Kimble made 13 saves in net to earn the win, marking the 13th time the Rochester, N.Y. product has stopped double-digit shots in his career.
Â
Matthew Johnson registered five points on Saturday, being the leading point-getter for the Hounds for the first time this season.
Â
