ALAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.- The 10-seed UIndy Men's Tennis team clawed back from a 3-1 deficit versus 7-seed Midwestern State, but the comeback was too little too late as the Hounds closed out their season with a 4-3 loss to the Mustangs in the NCAA Division II Round of 16 Tuesday at Sanlando Park.
The doubles point was hard-fought, with the Greyhound duo of
Maximilian Witthaus and
Nils Hoffacker taking doubles 3 first, 6-3. After the Mustangs took a 6-4 win at ones, the doubles 2 match came down to an extra game, with
Renato Lima and
Magnus Mueller falling 7-5 to surrender the doubles point to MSU.
Midwestern State would go up 2-0 after a 6-0, 6-4 win at five singles, but Mueller put the Greyhounds on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win at four singles.
The Mustangs pushed the score to 3-1 in their favor with a 6-2, 6-4 win at one singles, but the Hounds would not go quietly. Huber closed out a three-set win, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at three singles to push the team score to 3-2, and Hoffacker followed with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at two singles to knot the team score at 3-3.
Matej Kostadinov's six singles match went three sets as well, with the senior ultimately falling 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 to close out the match and the Greyhounds' season.
