Echeverria Takes Regional Medal as Hounds Advance to Nationals

OWENBORO, Ky. – The UIndy women's golf team earned an eighth consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Championship Wednesday. Led by individual medalist Pilar Echeverria, the Greyhounds (292-296-315) earned a spot at Nationals with a runner-up showing at the East Super Regional tournament, held at The Pearl Club in Owensboro, Ky.

Echeverria (72-71-76) continued her historic season with another individual title, upping her single-season school record to seven medalist honors. She has now won three consecutive individual medals at regionals, an unprecedented accomplishment for a UIndy golfer.

Echeverria would finish the 54 holes at +3, topping runner-up Makenzie Torres of Findlay by two strokes. However, Torres led a successful final-round comeback by the Oilers, who overcame a six-stroke deficit to take the team title and snap UIndy's seven-year reign as regional champion.

Findlay, UIndy, Grand Valley State and Missouri-St. Louis will all advance to Nationals and be joined by individual qualifiers Sydni Harding (Northwood), Caro Els (Northern Michigan), Krystal Knight (Merrimack) and Jennifer Queller (Illinois Springfield). The 2019 NCAA DII Championships will be held May 15-18 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The Greyhounds are the defending national champs.

Two Hounds finished just outside the top 10 on Wednesday, as freshly-named GLVC Freshman of the Year Cailyn Henderson (73-80-75) and senior Katharina Keilich (75-71-82) shared 11th place at +12. Sophomore Anna Kramer (72-76-82) tied for 14th place, while senior Kennedy Holtsclaw (77-78-83) shared 30th.

TUESDAY
With 36 holes in the books, the Greyhounds (292-296) held on to the lead at the 2019 NCAA East Super Regional. UIndy owns a six-stroke advantage over second-place Findlay heading into Wednesday's final round.

Findlay cut into the UIndy lead with a second-round 291, but the defending champs held off the charge with a pair of 71s from its All-Americans as both Pilar Echeverria and Katharina Keilich finished the round at -1. Echeverria (72-71) leads the 65-woman field as the only golfer under par, while Keilich (75-71) now sits at +2 to share third place.

After an even-par first round, sophomore Anna Kramer (72-76) remained on top 10, tying for eighth place at +4. Freshman Cailyn Henderson (73-80) slipped to 15th place, while senior Kennedy Holtsclaw (77-78) is now tied for 23rd.

MONDAY
The Hounds had a good start to the 2019 NCAA East Super Regional Monday. With all five student-athletes positioned in the top 20, the Greyhounds finished the opening round with a team score of 292 to lead the field by seven strokes.

Junior Pilar Echeverria and sophomore Anna Kramer led the way, as each carded an even-par 72 to finish one back of leader Katie Chapman of Grand Valley State. Freshman Cailyn Henderson (+1) is tied for fourth, while senior Katharina Keilich (+3) also found herself in the top 10, sharing seventh place with six other golfers.
