OWENBORO, Ky. – The UIndy women's golf team earned an eighth consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Championship Wednesday. Led by individual medalist
Pilar Echeverria, the Greyhounds (292-296-315) earned a spot at Nationals with a runner-up showing at the East Super Regional tournament, held at The Pearl Club in Owensboro, Ky.
Echeverria (72-71-76) continued her historic season with another individual title, upping her single-season school record to seven medalist honors. She has now won three consecutive individual medals at regionals, an unprecedented accomplishment for a UIndy golfer.
Â
Echeverria would finish the 54 holes at +3, topping runner-up Makenzie Torres of Findlay by two strokes. However, Torres led a successful final-round comeback by the Oilers, who overcame a six-stroke deficit to take the team title and snap UIndy's seven-year reign as regional champion.
Â
Findlay, UIndy, Grand Valley State and Missouri-St. Louis will all advance to Nationals and be joined by individual qualifiers Sydni Harding (Northwood), Caro Els (Northern Michigan), Krystal Knight (Merrimack) and Jennifer Queller (Illinois Springfield). The 2019 NCAA DII Championships will be held May 15-18 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The Greyhounds are the defending national champs.
