HAMMOND, IN – The Greyhound women's soccer team continued their hot start against Purdue Northwest on Saturday, dominating the match on a final score of 4-1. Indianapolis blanked the Lions in the second half, outscoring them 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds were aggressive right out of the gate, which paid off in the third minute of the match.
Meredith Magee took charge off a pass from
Emily Del Campo, leading to her first goal of the season. In the final 25 minutes of the game, the Greyhounds proceeded to storm past Purdue Northwest with three consecutive unassisted goals.
An immediate impact off the bench,
Elena Espinosa was the first of the trio to put the ball in the back of the net by herself in the 76th minute. Less than four minutes later,
Amanda Meyer continued a streak of her own, scoring a goal in her second consecutive match.
Maria Herrero finished the game with Indianapolis' final score, putting the ball in the goal unassisted in the 82nd minute of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds only allowed two shots on goal, barely giving the Lions a chance to run their offense.
Sophia Saucerman played her first match of the season in the goal, collecting a save along the way.
- Saturday's win marks the second season in a row that the Greyhounds have started 2-0. The Greyhounds have also only allowed one goal in both of the season's first two games.
- Saturday's victory is the first game since August 31, 2018 that Indianapolis had four different scorers in a single match.
