INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 11 UIndy men's basketball (9-1, 1-1 GLVC) team used a late first-half run before pulling away from the visiting Lewis Flyers (6-4, 1-1 GLVC) on Thursday evening to ring in the new year with an 82-67 victory.
Â
The Greyhounds limited the Flyers to just 29.7 percent shooting in the second half to snap their six-game winning streak.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds sandwiched a 19-4 run between halves to lead 46-38, with
Jordache Mavunga capping the barrage with a deep 3-pointer with 15:59 left on the clock. After Lewis creep within three, Miller Jr. dumped a fast break layup into the bucket before
Marcus Latham drilled a deep ball to get the lead back to 12.
Â
The UIndy lead would not touch below seven after the 5:52 mark, as Mavunga joined
Trevor Lakes to combine for 11 of the team's final 14 points before the buzzer.
Â
The Flyers could not miss in the early going, hitting seven of 11 from beyond the arc in the first half. Miller Jr. scored 14 of his 19 in the opening 20 minutes, but it was Lakes who made his third 3-pointer of the half to tie the game at 38 apiece just before the break.
