INDIANAPOLIS- In the latest edition of the NWCA Division II Coaches Poll, a pair of Greyhounds appear in the top 12 rankings at their respective weights.
Ana Abduljelil makes his debut in the 125 ranking at #9, after dropping down from 133 after the holiday break. The senior is 3-0 at 125, including a sudden victory win over then-#3 Patrick Allis of Western Colorado in his 125 debut Jan. 11. The Columbus, Ohio native was a national qualifier at 125 in 2017 as a true-freshman, before bumping up to 133 for the last two seasons and qualifying at the higher weight last season.
Dawson Combest is ranked for the first time in his UIndy career, coming in at #11 at 157. The redshirt freshman boasts a record of 14-3, with a sixth-place finish at the Midwest Classic in December.
In addition to the national rankings, the Super Region 3 rankings were also released this week, with Abduljelil in the #2 spot at 125 in the region, while Combest is #3 at 157. At 133, freshman
Chase Wilkerson debuts in the #3 spot after getting his redshirt pulled to start the calendar year, while
Kyle Barkovich is in the #5 spot at 149. After Combest at 157,
Jack Eiteljorge sits in the #2 spot at 165, with
Gleason Mappes in the #5 spot at 174. At 184,
Brody Conner holds the #4 ranking, with
Zach Fry closing out the ranked Hounds in the #5 spot at 197.
As a team, UIndy is receiving votes in the national poll, and is fourth in the regional team poll. St. Cloud State tops the Division II Top 25, with McKendree, Nebraska-Kearney, Pitt-Johnstown and Notre Dame (OH) rounding out the top five. Notre Dame leads the Super Region 3 team poll, with Ashland in second and Tiffin in third ahead of the Greyhounds.
UIndy continues its stint at home, hosting Bellarmine in GLVC action Friday night in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
