INDIANAPOLIS- In their first action of the spring season, the #4 UIndy women's tennis team bested crosstown-rival Butler, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Butler Bubble.
"I was very happy with the way the girls started off the match," Head Coach
Malik Tabet said. "Kudos to butler for playing very aggressive right off the bat. I was content with our ladies for hanging tight and implementing their strategies."
The Greyhounds (1-0) took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The duo of
Nikol Alekseeva and
Anna Novikova opened their spring season with a 7-6 (7-2) win over Butler's Padgett and Monesmith, while
Anna Valiaeva and
Lizaveta Demchenko took a 6-2 win in the three doubles spot.
On the singles courts,
Alina Kislitskaya notched the first point for the Hounds at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Alekseeva was the next to finish, putting up a 6-0, 6-1 win at one singles.
Maria Solnyshkina put the Hounds up 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, while Novikova won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Valiaeva notched the clinching point for UIndy, taking a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 three-set win at six singles.Â
UIndy is next in action Sunday, on the road versus Tusculum. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.Â
