BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – After garnering a top-10 ranking in Division II, the No. 10 UIndy men's tennis team brought on Ferris State for a match in the UIndy Tennis Center on Friday. The Greyhounds took down the Bulldogs in a dominant fashion, sweeping them on a final score of 7-0.
The No. 1-ranked doubles team in Division II didn't take long to heat up, as
Dario Huber and
Renato Lima took down Mathis Guerre and Pablo Munoz Baroja with a score of 6-2. UIndy dropped the next doubles match of
Tom Zeuch and
Maximilian Witthaus, as Cedric Rupa and Josh McDermott took the match 6-4. The third match finalized the doubles point in favor of the Greyhounds, as
Dominik Koenig and
Nikolaj Talimaa overcame Andrew Swirzcek and Alec Olivier for a final score of 7-5.
The singles sweep started when Talimaa was the first match to conclude, giving UIndy a hot start with a 6-1, 6-2 final score over McDermott. Christian Morales came into the match and instantly made an impact, making quick work of Rupa 6-1, 6-1. The third singles match to conclude was between Koenig and Alec Oliver, Koenig winning that battle on a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Dario Huber continued to prove why he's ranked No. 8 in the nation, as the 6-1, 6-4 final score was too much for Baroja to overcome. Zeuch dueled in a back-and-forth battle with Guerre, bringing the comeback win on a final score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). No. 12 Lima was the final match to finish, completing the team sweep versus Yannic Alexander Mader 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
The No. 10 men's tennis team will have a break from competition until Mar. 13, where they will compete in a three-day event in San Antonio, Texas. The Spring Fling Team Tournament will last until the end of Mar. 15.
