#4 Women’s Tennis Downs Bowling Green State

INDIANAPOLIS – In the final dual meet before the ITA Indoor Championships, the No. 4 UIndy women's tennis team invited Division I-foe Bowling Green State to the UIndy Tennis Center on Sunday. The Greyhounds defeated the Falcons on a final score of 5-2.

The doubles matches swung heavily in UIndy's favor, taking all three of the matches between the two teams. The No. 3 doubles team of Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova were the first squad to finish, dominating their match against BGS' Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Marta Bettinelli on a final score of 6-1. Anna Valiaeva and Maria Solnyshkina were the next Greyhound duo to conclude their match, winning on a score of 6-2 against Ayumi Sasaki and Laura Silveira. The final match to finish was the closest of the three, as the duo of Alina Kislitskaya and Maja Pindelska took down the tough team of Yulia Kapitanova and Ioanna Tsadari with a score of 6-4.

The singles matches were a back-and-forth battle for the two teams; but the Greyhounds won the majority by taking four of the six matches. Sasaki downed Solnyshkina in a quick battle to conclude the first singles match, winning on a final score of 6-1, 6-1. The No. 20 single in DII, Kislitskaya, evened out the score with her victory over Kapitanova, having a match final score of 6-1, 6-1. Alekseeva continued to show why she's deserving of her No. 2 ranking, putting down Tavpash handily 6-2, 6-1. The next match to end had a final score of 6-2, 6-4 as Valiaeva took down Bettinelli in the fourth match of the day. The fifth belonged to No. 24 Novikova and Tsadari, ending in favor of the Falcons on a 6-3, 6-7 (2), 2-6 final score. UIndy ended the day on a high note, as Pindelska claimed the win over Silveira with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-5, 10-2.

The No. 4 team in Division II will make their final preparations before they travel to Edmond, Okla. for their next competition at the ITA Indoor Championships. The championships will start Friday, Feb. 28 and last until the end of Sunday, Mar. 1.
