INDIANAPOLIS – It was a slow start under snowy conditions on Friday, but the No. 9 UIndy women's lacrosse team (4-0) got going late in the first half to earn a 14-11 victory over 19th-ranked Grand Valley State (0-1) at Key Stadium.
Â
The Greyhounds held an 8-5 lead at halftime, thanks to a hat trick from redshirt-sophomore
Abigail Lagos before the Windham, N.H., native finished with four goals. Sophomore keeper
Cassidy King made 11 stops in the win, while senior two-time All-America
Riley McClure caused five turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers snagged the early lead on Friday, before the teams each traded off two-goal stretches at the midway point of the first half. It was then
Destinie Katz kicked off a 4-0 UIndy run, which was capped by
Peyton Romig with under four minutes left to head into the break with an 8-5 advantage.
Â
As the snow poured down heavier in the second half, the defense played an integral role in the contest. After Romig and
Lauryn Hardoy gave the Hounds a 10-5 lead, the Lakers stormed back with four straight to get back within a single tally.
Â
But King made the stops when UIndy needed them most to fuel its own 4-nil stretch, finished by rookie
Quinn Malcolm. The Lakers added a pair of goals late, but it was too late as the Greyhounds picked up their second ranked victory on the young campaign.
Â
