INDIANAPOLIS – In their third match this week, the No. 12 UIndy men's tennis team hosted the Grand Valley State Lakers in the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday. The match was a nail-biter, but the Greyhounds owned the majority to stay undefeated on a 4-3 final score.
UIndy kicked off a hot start by sweeping the doubles matches, going a perfect three-for-three.
Dario Huber and
Renato Lima dominated their GVSU matchup, finishing their double first on a final score of 6-1. The young duo of
Tom Zeuch and
Maximilian Witthaus took down their opponents next, finishing their match on a 6-4 final score. The third and final doubles match went to a nail-biter, but
Dominik Koenig and
Nikolaj Talimaa prevailed and escaped with their 7-6 win.
The singles matches were a back-and-forth between the two squads, both teams taking three matches each. The first match done was owned by Zeuch, collecting his win quickly on a 6-3, 6-0 score against his opponent. Huber's experience powered through his matchup with a strong 6-1, 6-2 performance, collecting a singles win in the process. Lima's match was the first to not go the Greyhounds' way, dropping a close match on a final score of 2-6, 6-1, 4-6. Talimaa gave the surge back to UIndy with his win, collecting the dub on a 6-0, 6-4 score. Koenig went back and forth with his Laker opponent, but ultimately couldn't come out on top, losing his match 1-6, 6-4, 6-7 (10).
Cristian Morales was the final Greyhound to finish his singles match, but fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (4) to end the night.
UIndy will travel on Sunday across town, competing against the DI Butler Bulldogs. The Greyhounds will look to avenge last season's loss at 10 a.m.
